Freedom Writers (2007)

This is a movie I found on telly one night when I was really getting ready to bed. I off cause ended up watching the damn thing not going to sleep until 3am. I was amazed by the movie and have wanted to write about it ever since but eh stuff got in the way...

Freedom Writers is about a new teacher in a public school forced to do a integration program. She is given a English class filled with "low class" students that all have given up on getting anywhere else than the gang life they are already part of. The thing is so has all the other teachers. They see them as a scum that can't be taught anything. The new teacher Erin struggles with the class and in a moment of rage over a drawing she learns that the kids doesn't even know what the Holocaust is, giving her an idea toward how she should teach these kids.

This movie reminds me so much of Dangerous Minds starring Michelle Pfeiffer, a movie I has watched a lot. It is the same type of new teacher comes to town and teach young kids that every one else has given up on. Freedom writers however is more modern (to be fair dangerous minds premiered in 95) and it gives a lot more insight in the change in the kids. Erin gives the kids a change to be heard by giving them the assignment to write whatever comes to mind. This is also through this assignment we as a viewer gets to hear what is going on in the bright minds of the kids, how their lives works, how everything is ruled by the gangs.

Not living in the US and not being confronted with the issue, because in my part of the country gangs aren't really a problem, I know next to nothing about it. But given I do know it's a problem I believe this movie is really good at showing in an entertaining way what is going on. Don't get me wrong I know that movies like this show a "romantic" side of the gang wars. After all the movie has to sell tickets. On the other hand the use of the words from the book gives it a more real feel to it. And i do find it that the use of the book works really well.

I really recommend watching this movie. If it scares you it should. It is about real life and about real kids that society has just given up on. Simply just Watch it.

Rango (2011)

So yeah this is not really the first time I watch Rango... not the second time either.. actually the first time was in cinema with Mini-Me... The thing is my sister had to buy a present for a friends birthday and she dragged me into a store selling movies.. it is a favorite store of ours but kinda expensive since they have so many great movies at cheap prices and you often end up with like 10 movies you feel like you can't live without..  Same goes for yesterday.. found 4 movies and a present I could not live without.. my sister did the same..  anywho one of these lucky movies that got to go home with little me was (can you guess it?) Rango! I of cause popped it in thinking i need a small fix of Johnny Depp and to a happy surprise of mine realized there are 2 versions... a theatrical and an extended... just had to see the long one no way around of that...

Rango is a Chameleon from the city.. his entire life he has been living in a cage believing himself to be undiscovered actor. He act around with his friends (the toys given to keep him company) but he is beginning to realize that his character, the hero, is missing conflict. With that said conflicts hit the dear Rango. He ends up all alone in the desert and gets the advise from a armadillo to go find water, but to find that he must first find dirt. Now all there is left is to sit back and watch how Rango finds his inner hero.

Clearly I love this Animation.. First off I only buy what I love to watch.. secondly I have watched it sooo many times.. It's a fun movie and Depp is so great in it (to be fair I haven't seen a movie yet where Depp wasn't great) Rango is such a great character and to see this awkward dude become the accidental hero is always a fun thing.

A thing I love about Rango is that, to me, it has managed to capture the essence of those old Westerns that surfaced after the war. It builds up like most of them did (haven't watched to many westerns but in some ways they are quite similar)... but also it brings more to the table.. because the wild west is kinda dead by now and it shows you how modernization changes the life of a lot of people without them realizing.. big changes often happen without the majority noticing and those who can't adapt get lost behind. In Rango changes are of the big evil because there is not that big a need as it is but when the change has happend nobody seems to mind though..

As for the extended version goes.. well there is a few extra scenes but to be honest I didn't really notice.. but it is properly me who wasn't all that observant... that tend to happen when you cook and chat at the same time as watching a movie.. but now I can watch it as often as I feel like.. Rango is safe and sound in my shelf... happy days to me ;)

Lost Girl (2010 - ?)

Back to series land... as a movie-muncher I go through these WAY to quick... anyway series it is... seems like I have a thing for finding things where I end up having to wait for new seasons... oh goodie

Lost Girl is about the Fae world.. For those who doesn't know what Fae is I can tell that it is the world of mythical creatures... most know of these would be vampires and werewolf but there are a hell of a lot scary monster stories told to explain or keep people from doing stuff... In this series you follow Bo a Succubus that has been hidden from the Fae world since childhood. Therefor she has no training in controlling herself either... meaning bad things tend to happen... she gets caught by the Fae community after one of these "bad Things" and since she is unaligned she is put through the test after which she has to choose to be either Light Fae or Dark Fae...

Finding trailers for shows proves to be hard.. finding one for a show that sadly has not been released on DVD yet even harder... this is a great fan-made trailer for the show.. enjoy

Let's start of by saying GO Canada! As they proclaimed them self "others got Vampires we got a Succubus"... It is a interesting show... with lots and lots of sex given we are dealing with a succubus.. And yes with so many vampire movies, series and stuff it is nice to get something else of the mythical world. Especially with the new standard of vampires (arhhh sparkling).. also the characters are just so neatly put together they fit in their own weird and sometimes awkward way (girl here loves her drama)... actually the crew is so great in this that i can't settle with one favorite character.. And in episode 9 of season 2 you get to see just how amazing a crew this is.. really amazing... it's a rare treat of the filmed world to see just that..

If I have to choose favorites though then I really like the doctor, Lauren, for well no good reason other than Zoie has this amazing smile and puppy eyes and I'm such a sucker for that...  also Kenzi is just adorable.. street smart and all she is so cute and comes up with the greatest comments ever... even when she is dead serious she tends to make you smile or giggle a little... thumps up for Ksenia Solo...

uh it is like christmas....

To point out just how great I think this show is I can end by telling you that it took me the time of about 4 days to go through all that has been aired so far.. that is with long shifts at work and stuff like that.. (so little sleep o.O ) and I have the feeling that September 2nd is a hell of a long way from now :) so really go Canada and pretty please give me some more of this stuff...

We Bought a Zoo (2011)

A friend and I have this Dinner-Movie deal going. We try and meet at least once a week and do some cooking together and then ending the evening with a movie.. the deal is somewhat that I come up with some food (uh magical food) and he often chooses the movie.. I don't mind because it forces me out of my comfort zone and often I end up seeing a great movie in good company..

Tonight the choice was on We Brought a Zoo, a fairly new movie since it hasn't really had premiere in DK yet (ups?) anywho the movie is about Benjamin, an adventure junkie, who has recently lost his wife. He is desperately trying to make the everyday life with the 2 kids work. Benjamin's brother encourage him to start over but for some reason I don't think the turn of events was what the brother was thinking about. After Benjamin's son Dylan gets expelled Benjamin decides to look for a new home. He finds the perfect home but it comes with strings attached. You see the house is part of a zoo that needs a lot of maintenance so that it can open in the summer. He has his doubts until he sees his extremely adorable daughter feed a flock of peacocks. So now the house is bought it's time for the fun to begin...

This movie is soooooo cute. I might not have chosen to see this one right away if I had been on my own... don't get me wrong I love watching family's but this isn't one I've seen to much about at least not yet.. but it is simply adorable. It has it deeps and stuff... it has to after all we are talking about a family who just lost the mom... It is about a family finding a way to survive even though it's a rather strange way they go to do so.

the movie is packed with some big actors and it works really well.. i have to admit that the little Maggie Elizabeth Jones simply won my heart... she is so cute and maybe we will be lucky to see a lot more of her in the future. But she is not alone on this cast and even actors and actresses i don't normally like all to much is just fitting in this movie in a way that makes me wanna see it over and over again..

We brought a zoo!!!

so the conclusion is gonna be of the hip.. if you like sweet movies or just family's you should see this one. It's fun and different and I think any little girl will love it.. it has its cliches but lets face it how many movies are without some of those these days...

The Good Wife (2009 -?)

The Good Wife is a lawyer series about a woman named Alicia Florrick, who starts in a lawfirm after 13 years of the market due to her being a stay home mom for her 2 kids that she has with the former state attorney. Alicia goes back to working after her husband has been imprisoned for a corruption scandal in order for her family to stay afloat. Besides Alicia you also get to follow Peter Florricks political fight, Diane Lockhart and Will Gardner, the owners of the firm, Alicia's competitor Cary Argos and the investigator Kalinda Sharma who Alicia becomes friends with. See more about that in the "trailer" below...

So nothing like a little bit of drama. This series has a lot to show for in that apartment. It's intriguing and actually manged to get my mind of the season break in Castle. That's a big thing for any series to do. And i'm even sad that this is yet another series i have to wait for the next episode in. I like want it now.. work my minions work...

so to no surprise to any of my friends my favorite character in this series is Kalinda. Archie Panjabi is just awesome in that role.. total kick-ass in leather jackets and miniskirts... Yummi!... and i for one just love peeling of layers.. Seeing who she is beneath all that attitude...

this is just such a cool promo i had to put it on... love cartoon style!

Of cause i fell in love with the series during a box showing on TV (they are awesome when fighting a small hangover just so you know) and started in the middle of the series before getting my act together and take it from the top.. making me read between the lines of something i wasn't supposed to know yet. Which is why i can warmly recommend seeing it more than once because so much more makes sense when you have the later knowledge.

And now i'm back to the waiting game... but yeah if anyone ask this one is definitively going in my collection

one sunburned girl out looking for a new series later ppl

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002)

I'm in need of Animations!!!! Sometimes I just get this need to find a nice animation preferably with some nice songs that we all love to sing along on. Disney often does the trick but since I have been watching them pretty much all my life (though it has been in danish) i figured that some of those nice DreamWorks that I love just as much should have a few nice words going their way.

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is a western story but unlike the many (MANY) movies of that particular genre this isn't a white mans tale. The story evolves around this beautiful wild stallion in America in the beginning of the colonization of America. The White are trying to tame the nature by capturing horses cutting down trees building railroads and killing the "savages". Yes the white man isn't all that good in this movie. You follow the stallion later known as Spirit as he fights for his freedom after being captured and brought to the army (bluecoats).

So this is a emotional roller-coaster for me. I mean first I'm laughing then i'm crying then laughing then crying.. really it goes on like that.. The songs are great though.. full of energy making you sing along in no time..  Bryan Adams for the win!
Really I love this "traditional" type of cartoons.. and the message in it is kinda great. That you shouldn't try and tame nature it brings you more joy if you don't also we don't have the right to. This though is a question of believes that i don't intend to go into because it's not really what i'm doing in this. But it is one that this movie rises whether or not it is intentional. It is of cause also a great tale of friendship and understanding.. and even a bit of pride thrown into the mixer...

anyway I hope this movie can bring you just as much joy (and other stuff) as it does me.. :)

Rizzoli & Isles (2010-?)

soooo lost in series at the moment... maybe a way to keep my mind of the fact that i have to wait until the 19. for the next Castle episode... dang waiting time.. :(

Anyway doing some random searching on the big web i kinda fell over this series. As I have come to understand there's a lot of shipping going on about the 2 lead characters. Being all new to that term.. maybe I'm not a movie geek more a movie nerd since I don't really go into that kinda stuff.. though I can imagine why some people like to think they are a couple.

so this Rizzoli & Isles... what is it about... well it's your basic cop-series. You of cause follow Rizzoli and Isles in case you where doubting that. Detective Jane Rizzoli is a American-Italian chick who kicks ass every now and then. Dr. Maura Isles is an upper class nerd working in the coroner office. They are close friends and work together on different murder cases.

So why watch this cop-series over others? well it's different. It manage to stay interesting without the sexual tension that most hit series feed of. Not to talk bad about the others because I do like those to but I find it that most series try and survive on the sexual tension. That's why it is refreshing to find a series that are based on humor and the odd combination of characters. Jane and Maura is so different in upbringing and ways of thinking that is sometimes painfully funny. Jane being down to earth and very direct and Maura being this brainiac filling everything with complicated knowledge instead of simple answers. They complement each other quite well and yeah sometimes they do kinda act like a married couple.. hm what else to tell... well i find the stories built well. Already in the first episode you get a big chunk of history of the characters.. well mostly Rizzoli's history... getting you hooked on their stories..

so yeah I have very little bad about this series.. I do find it very sad that they don't stick with the ringtone joke from the first episode because it was funny and it would have been cool to keep that later on in the series. Also there was an episode where there was a fault in the solving of a case.. the biology knocked into my head over the years was screaming at me it was that bad.. but if you don't have the same level in biology that I do you wont notice it so i guess it's not that bad again just wrong... goes without saying you should not believe everything you hear....

Camelot (2011)

Okay so I for one have always loved the tales of King Arthur and the knights of the round table, the magical Merlin and so on... which is why I just had to see Camelot (not to mention that Eva Green shows up now and then) Anywho  Camelot is about the happenings after King Uther's death. Merlin locating the unknown heir of Uther and trying to make him king, Morgan fighting this as she believe herself to be the rightful heir to the throne and then all the trouble with pretty girls and their men ;)

I Love this show. I know it is a story told a lot both in movies and in series. I have meet many commentaries toward watching the series Merlin instead of Camelot and even though I watched a few episodes it didn't catch my attention in any way near the way Camelot seemed to. So far the only thing that bums me with Camelot is the fact that there wont be made a season 2. So there will only be the 10 episodes of the first season to look at.
Also speaking only visually Camelot reminds me a lot of Rome... also all the plotting, sex and blood is in both series. Just to make sure this is not a child friendly series. I did tell a friend that I found them similar and he went on to try and watch Rome saying he didn't like it.
well back to Camelot... The thing that I believe to be the reason behind me falling so much more for this tale about Arthur over all the others I've seen so far is the human factor. Yeah it doesn't hurt that i like a few of the actors and actresses a lot but that's not where i'm going... It's the characters human factor. Normally when dealing with this tale you have Arthur and Merlin on the good side and Morgan on the bad. But the characters in Camelot isn't solely good nor bad, but a mix of the 2. You do see Arthur as a savior but also as the man he is driven by passion and sometimes right. Merlin isn't just this mighty man with visions and powers he is as scared as any other man. And Morgan well being kinda evil by upbringing she is not devoid from human feelings. More than once you get to see her worry and fear for others. She is not cold as it has been told often before.. she's just human.

Lie To Me (2009 - 2011)

So I have been off the planet for a while... doing well stuff  >.<

So i haven't seen any movies you think nah i watched plenty even celebrated the father and creator of something i hold very dear... The Addams Family. But I'm not back to talk about them... much anyway... can say if you are not familiar with this sweet morbid creation you should check out The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993) both staring a young Christian Ricci (SOOOOO cute)

Really the reason I'm back here is because I actually have ended up missing the rambeling about movies toward  whoever... That's you by the way... also i can you the opportunity to tell you people that you can follow my blog with Bloglovin... muhahahah got that solved quite easy didn't I

Now to the goodies... A friend has been talking a lot about this series Lie to Me, telling me it is a awesome series... so i figured why not after all I'm trying to cut down in my wanna watch list (believe me when i say it is a long long long list) so i might as well start here.

Lie to Me is about Dr. Cal Lightman, a scientist that owns a corporate called the The Lightman Group. The Lightman Group has specialized themselves in the art of reading lies on peoples face. Throughout the series you follow Cal and his team solving pretty much any type of case by telling weather or not the involved parties are lying through their teeth (which they often are)
So yeah I was a bit skeptical on this series in the beginning. I found it to be way to showing in the beginning not giving me much of a mystery to solve through the episodes. Luckily this changes the longer you get.. a bit like the first 3-4 episodes were testings and then they figured out that they had to make it a bit harder to see. The truth is I have come to love this series a lot and are sad to learn that they choose to cancel it.

Another thing I just love about this show is the drama (yeah I know I'm such a girl) The connection between all the characters builds up some of the want to watch the next episode. Wanting to see if they figure out just how much they all care about one another.

So there you have it the first words from me in 2012 hope it was worth it... otherwise i'll be back
